Applying the same broad reasoning to every situation is a problem. Every situation we face should be considered individually. The same is true when people talk about requiring masks or some other thing in every situation and every place. The details of each situation are important to consider.
But if the practice will save lives, and it would only be a minor inconvenience, then why should the *other* differences matter? There will, of course, be differences across situations and problems, but that doesn't mean they are *salient* differences. Food for thought.
If the mask mandate was backed up by complete data, I believe it would not support the spread of the virus by vaccinated people. I think complete data would show many deaths are occurring in people with compromised immune systems. These are the people that should be wearing masks and avoiding crowds. A lot has to do with who's responsible. I'm responsible for my own health. If I take risks, I suffer the results. I'm not responsible for someone else's health. That doesn't mean I would not be careful around people with compromised immune systems. It's like the saying, do unto others as you would have that do to you. As you said, we could end up so "we should never stop wearing masks to keep people safe from diseases across the gambit—not just Covid-19." I can't go around taking the blame for everyone that dies if I don't wear a mask at the grocery store where masks aren't required. Where does it stop? It's good to ponder this.
